Nine new households moved into Window Lane in Garston last week, the latest development in our ambitious programme that aims to build 780 new homes throughout south Liverpool before 2032.
Offering a mix of two, three and four bedrooms, all homes are for social rent and have been built to the highest EPC A standard, including EV charging points and photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. These features not only support our tenants to live sustainably, but they also demonstrate our ongoing environmental commitment set out in our Planet strategy.
This completes the £5 million development programme for Garston Under the Bridge, after tenants moved into fifteen new homes on Church Road just before Christmas.
Cheryl
Tenant Cheryl moved into one of the homes with her 21-year-old son after living in temporary accommodation for over two years:
“When I got the call about Window Lane, I could hardly believe it. After everything we’ve been through, having a secure home at last feels too good to be true. It’s the start of a happy, peaceful future for me and my son.”
Leighann
Leighann was on our waiting list for six years before being offered a home. She and her three sons had lived in a privately rented home for 16 years, which had become uninhabitable due to chronic disrepair.
The family was moved into temporary accommodation for two months before being offered a three-bedroom home in the new development:
“I'm overwhelmed. It's absolutely lovely. It's nicer than I expected and bigger, and I'm really happy”, she said. “The children will be as well.”
“The way we were living was atrocious, it was awful. So moving to something like this is really a dream come true.”
Ashley
Ashley was declared homeless three years ago, after receiving a no-fault eviction notice from a privately rented home. She has four children and three of them have additional needs. The family have lived in temporary accommodation until receiving the keys to their new four-bedroom home:
“We were driving up Window Lane, and the new homes were being built. My son, Bobby, said one of them would be ours, but I thought no chance. When we got the phone call from SLH, I drove to the address and felt overwhelmed and cried. Bobby reminded me he had said one would be ours. It does mean so much, because it's been so long without a home; it's going to take time, I think, to grasp it. This is mine.”
Altogether, we’re delivering 98 new homes across Garston, spread across three different sites - Church Road, Window Lane, and The Old Baths, which reflects our commitment to investing in the area.
