South Liverpool Homes (SLH) has submitted plans to Liverpool City Council for a new housing development that will deliver approximately 57 high-quality homes off Aigburth Road in south Liverpool.

The proposed development will offer a mix of apartments for social rent, shared ownership and rent-to-buy, providing more choice for customers in one of Liverpool’s most desirable locations.

The Alexandra Drive development will see the sensitive renovation of a listed Victorian villa on the site, formerly used as care home. This historic building will be converted into 17 apartments for social rent, preserving its heritage while bringing it back into use.

The development will also see a new, purpose-built apartment block constructed to the rear of the villa, facing Aigburth Road.

Once planning approval is confirmed, work is expected to start in spring 2027. All homes will be built to modern standards, with the new-build homes built to EPC A energy efficiency standards. The project has been carefully designed by architect Falconer Chester Hall to maximise the potential of this appealing brownfield site.

Several recessed balconies feature metal railings, and warm interior lighting is visible through the glazing. A few people walk near the entrance at ground level, where garage-style doors line the base of the building. Trees with autumn foliage surround the scene under a soft, cloudy sky.

"By transforming a disused site and restoring a historic building, we are creating a development that respects its surroundings while delivering modern, sustainable homes for the future.”

- Angela Perry - Executive Director of Assets and Neighbourhoods

This marks SLH’s largest mixed-tenure development outside of Speke and Garston, where the organisation currently manages approximately 3,800 homes. It is part of SLH’s wider commitment to build 780 homes across South Liverpool by 2032, helping to address the growing demand for affordable housing, with over 2,000 people currently on their waiting list.

Angela Perry, SLH’s Executive Director of Assets and Neighbourhoods, said: “We are really excited about the plans for this development in Aigburth, which will provide much-needed homes in a highly desirable area.

"This project reflects our commitment to building quality homes across the wider south Liverpool area, giving our customers more choice and helping to meet the high demand for affordable housing.

The development is a five-minute walk from Lark Lane and Sefton Park, close to popular bars and cafes in south Liverpool.

This is SLH’s second development in Aigburth, following the ongoing construction of 28 one and two-bedroom apartments on Tramway Road for social rent.
