We are aware that some early plans for potential new homes in Speke have been shared on social media.
We understand that people will have questions, particularly about green space and the impact any new development could have on the local area. We want local people to hear about the proposals directly from us and have the opportunity to ask questions and share their views.
The proposals are at a very early feasibility stage, where we are assessing whether the sites are suitable for new homes. If any site is considered suitable, further work and consultation would be needed before any proposals are brought forward. We are planning to hold a consultation event once we are in a position to share more detailed information.
As soon as we have more information to share, we will let local residents know and explain how you can have your say.
Green space
We know that access to green space matters a lot to people in Speke. We also know that good-quality, affordable homes are really important to local people too.
Across south Liverpool, we’re transforming unused land and neglected spaces into much-needed affordable homes, helping to regenerate areas and improve the look and feel of our neighbourhoods.
We know how important green space is to the local community, and it matters to us too. That’s why most of our new developments are on land that is underused or not contributing positively to the area. Some of the sites being considered have also previously had homes built on them.
We are also keen to improve green and open spaces, and have already been working with local people to understand how spaces owned by SLH could be improved and used in ways that matter most to them.

New homes
We currently have over 2,300 people on our waiting list, many of whom are living in difficult circumstances, and we cannot meet this demand with the homes we currently have. That’s why we are building new homes across Speke, Garston and wider south Liverpool.
When considering any new development, we need to balance the need for more affordable homes with the importance of green and open space.
Current new developments in Speke
The developments below have already been through public consultation and have received planning approval:
- South Parade: 92 homes for social rent, affordable rent, Rent to Buy and shared ownership. Currently under construction and due for completion spring 2027.
- Six smaller sites on unused land owned by SLH.
These developments will provide new homes for social rent.
The proposals currently being explored
The proposals that have been shared on social media relate to a number of sites across Speke that we are currently exploring for potential new affordable homes. They are at a very early stage and no decisions have been made. If any proposals progress, they would go through the usual planning and consultation process, giving local residents the opportunity to see the plans and have their say.
