This week marks a major milestone for tenants as Awaab’s Law officially comes into force, setting strict legal requirements for housing associations to tackle damp, mould and other hazardous conditions in homes.
Named after two-year-old Awaab Ishak, who tragically died in 2020 due to prolonged exposure to mould in his family’s home in Rochdale, the law is designed to make sure a tragedy like this doesn’t happen again. It makes sure all social housing tenants live in homes that are safe, healthy and free from hazards such as damp, mould and other risks that could affect your wellbeing.
