From awareness to action: mental health support in Speke and Garston

When it comes to mental health support in our communities, raising awareness is important, but real change happens when we take action. That’s why we run a range of services and support groups to help you look after your mental health.

Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week (Monday 11– Friday 15 May), we want to shine a light on the different ways you can get help, support and stay well.

Our shared space in Speke, The Market Place Social, has a weekly events timetable that is packed with ways to get involved.

Mondays

Mind Connect

Mind Connect is a Liverpool-based mental health provider that hosts group sessions every Monday. Held at The Market Place Social, the wellbeing workshops cover a range of different topics. There are two sessions every Monday - 10.30am - 11.30am and 1pm - 2pm.

Tuesdays

Knit and Natter

Held every Tuesday at 10am in The Market Place Social, the group is made up of a mixture of ages and genders. All equipment is provided; just come along!

Care for a cuppa

Do you provide support for a friend, family member or neighbour, or know someone who does?

Local Solutions’ Carers Centre offers support and advice to unpaid carers and is based in The Market Place Social each Tuesday, 1.30pm-3pm. Drop in for a cuppa and a chat.

Thursdays

Seated Yoga

It’s important to us that our wellbeing sessions are inclusive and accessible for all. Each week we run seated exercise classes which are designed to help improve strength and balance, from the comfort of a chair.

Chair-based yoga will take place every Thursday, 1pm – 2pm at The Market Place Social. Each move is adaptable to your abilities.

The Life Rooms

Come along and speak to The Life Rooms every Thursday at The Market Place Social, 2pm - 4pm. They hold creative workshops to build confidence, self-esteem, and improve wellbeing.

Fridays

Coffee & Chat

Our weekly coffee morning happens every Friday at 10.30am. The sessions are held at The Market Place Social, but they move to Grow Speke for the summer. Come along to meet new people and have a natter whilst we pop the kettle on!

Boccia

Join us every Friday for our weekly Boccia class, 10.30am at The Market Place. It’s a fun, friendly, and inclusive activity for all abilities. Boccia is easy to learn, low‑impact, and a great way to stay active, build confidence, and meet new people in a relaxed setting. Whether you’re brand new or have played before, everyone is welcome to come along and give it a go!

If you would like to find out more about our mental health services and support groups, visit our events calendar or email [email protected] to chat to us about getting involved.

Ways to get involved in Garston

There are plenty of ways to support your mental health if you’re based in Garston and struggle to get to Speke. Getting involved in local activities, meeting up with others for a chat, or spending time in community spaces can help reduce stress and lift your mood.

Mind Connect

Every Wednesday Mind Connect hosts a weekly wellbeing workshop at Garston Family Health Centre between 10.30am and 11.30am. It’s a welcoming space to take time for yourself.

Dutch Farm Volunteer Open Day

On Wednesday 13 May Dutch Farm is opening the gates and hosting a volunteer open day between 11am - 1pm. Whether you’ve heard of the project before or you’re simply curious about what they do, this is your chance to head along, explore the farm, meet the team, and get a real taste of life at the heart of the community.

There’ll be a little something for everyone – whether you’re into growing, making, learning, or simply enjoying a brew and a good chat. Just head along and get stuck in!

Making time to access local mental health services can be an important step in looking after your wellbeing. Local support is easier to reach, understands the community you live in, and can help you feel less alone during difficult times.
