Our community pantry

The Market Place is South Liverpool Homes' volunteer-run community pantry in Speke which offers food and essential household goods to all SLH tenants who need them.

    About The Market Place

    The Market Place is owned and run by South Liverpool Homes. The shop links with food charity FareShare and other local sources of food and household goods, allowing residents to gain access to essential goods at a vastly-reduced price. The Market Place was set up by a small project team at South Liverpool Homes and is run solely by volunteers.

    How it works

    Once you become a member, you will receive a membership card. You can then go along to the pantry with your card and in exchange for £3.00 you will be able to choose goods to the approximate value of £15. Food, toiletries and household cleaning products will all be available.

    Who is eligible?

    All SLH tenants can apply for membership. This includes people who are working and those receiving benefits. When you apply for membership, there will be questions on the application form about money that comes into and out of your home. We will use your answers to these questions to assess if you need additional support from us.

The Market Place Social is a shared space at The Market Place, where people can come to chat, relax, create and connect.

Create

We use The Market Place Social for a wide variety of activities. From informal sessions like Coffee & Chat to regular arts and crafts and wellbeing classes, there’s always something going on.

Relax

Or if you just want to pop in for a brew and a warm when you’re doing your shopping at The Market Place, that’s okay too.

How to access The Market Place Social

The Market Place Social opening times:

  • Tues: 10am - 12:30pm
  • Weds: 10am - 12pm
  • Thurs: 2pm - 4pm

You can access Market Place Social via the pantry on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and via South Liverpool Homes’ side door entry on Fridays.

Why volunteer at The Market Place?

The Market Place is a volunteer-run community pantry in Speke which offers food and essential household goods to SLH tenants at a lower cost. The pantry was set up by a small project team at South Liverpool Homes and is run solely by volunteers. The project is about ‘more than just food’ - we also aim to make the shop a friendly, accessible venue where local people can find out about the range of services that SLH provides.

Roles include:

  • Controlling and managing stock levels
  • Serving in the pantry and helping with queries
  • Receiving deliveries and stocking shelves
  • Keeping up to date with special promotions and putting up displays
