The development will include a retail unit on Western Avenue.
The new apartment block and retail unit.
Eight one-bedroom apartments for over 55s.
About the development
Our Western Avenue project will redevelop derelict shops and apartments on the southern end of Western Ave, plus two houses on Hale Road.
The redevelopment of the site will include a purpose-built shop and 8 one-bedroom apartments for older people, for affordable rent.
The homes will be tailored for older residents and designed to adapt to changing needs, including lift access and level access shower enclosures.
Demolition of the existing buildings was undertaken in August 2024, and construction began on site in March 2025. We hope to hand over the first homes in April 2026.
The homes will be built to meet EPC A efficiency standards and will include solar PV panels, energy-efficient heating and hot water systems, and electric vehicle charging points.
The end of Western Avenue closest to the airport is seen as a gateway location to Speke and the new development will breathe fresh life into the area, while providing much-needed new homes and enterprise opportunities.
The development is part of SLH’s wider plans to build 780 new homes across Speke and Garston by 2032.
