Explore independent living

The support and community you want, with the independence you need.

What is independent living?

We recognise as we get older, maintaining everyday independence with the support of a friendly community becomes more important.  At our independent living apartments, we are confident we can meet both these expectations, by providing a place where tenants live independently in their own homes whilst having the comfort of extra support when needed. You can be assured that you will be part of a happy and stimulating community where you can be as independent as you wish, offering you choice and flexibility along the way. Please note: South Liverpool Homes do not allow tenants to have pets in our Independent Living schemes, so if you have a cat or a dog unfortunately we will not be able to offer you one of these homes.

  • Residential area with brick buildings, brown roofs, and surrounding greenery under a partly cloudy sky. A black metal fence borders the property, with roads and a pedestrian crossing in the foreground.

    Our developments

We have two independent living sites, Servite Court and Cobden Place. Situated in quiet residential areas in Woolton, both offer a warm, safe and homely environment consisting of private apartments for people over 60, or 55 years with a disability.

Both sites are located within a five-minute easy walking distance of local amenities and shops including a supermarket, post office, doctors and chemist.

If you want to travel that little bit further, Woolton is well connected to the rest of the city; bus stops are conveniently located close to both Servite Court and Cobden Place to take you to Liverpool city centre and other surrounding areas including Woolton Village and Belle Vale shopping centre. Hunts Cross train station is also just a short walk away.

  • Modern living room with a grey tufted sofa, zebra-patterned pillows, a yellow armchair, and a wooden TV stand. A round table with a potted plant and decorative wall items complete the space.

    Your apartment

Servite Court and Cobden Place have a range of apartments for one or two people.

Most of our apartments are situated in the main buildings, however if you would prefer that little bit more independence then we have a selection of apartments in the landscaped gardens where you can access your home without entering the main building.

You will have your own front door and privacy of your own home with the peace of mind that there is a 24-hour call system in all the apartments. All apartments have their own kitchen and bathroom areas and it’s yours to decorate and furnish as you please.

They benefit from gas central heating, smoke detectors, and satellite and digital TV connections. All apartments have access to the communal areas and gardens, which contributes to maintaining a family atmosphere in our independent living sites.

A secure door entry system gives you added security and gives you extra privacy by making you aware of who your guests are when they arrive.

And you don’t need to worry about any jobs that need doing around your home, an efficient repairs service and handyman can take care of all those niggling jobs.

  • Bright room with high ceilings, exposed white beams, and circular ceiling lights. Two large wooden tables are surrounded by light blue upholstered chairs. Windows with light curtains and a bookshelf filled with books are visible.

    Amenties and facilities

Our apartments are set in attractive, landscaped gardens for tenants to enjoy at their leisure. Each site has a large spacious lounge that offers extensive views over the gardens. Here tenants can read a book from the library, play games such as darts or board games or just chat with friends or family over a coffee.

Varied activities and entertainment are organised on regular occasions where tenants are encouraged, but not pressurised to join in. Many of these are organised by tenants themselves, and include tai-chi, quiz nights, bingo and pamper evenings to name a few.

A communal kitchen means that tenants and guests can help themselves to tea, coffee and biscuits whilst enjoying activities. It’s also used to cater for social events.

A number of outings are planned throughout the year, such as trips to Christmas markets, seaside resorts, garden centres and nostalgia events.

Modern laundry facilities are free for you to use which saves you having to arrange for the installation and upkeep of a washing machine in your apartment.

The beauty of independent living is that you have the freedom of choice and flexibility to pursue hobbies and take part in social activities when it suits you and your lifestyle.

  • Entrance to a brick house with a wooden door marked '58', surrounded by colourful flowers in hanging baskets and pots. Similar houses line the pathway.

    Our staff

Our loyal and experienced staff are there to help make life run smoothly and create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Our aim is to help you to be as independent as you wish, but make sure we are available when you need us.

We offer a warm and friendly approach and you can rest assured that your happiness and wellbeing is of prime importance to us. Staff training is a high priority so that you can be safe in the knowledge that you or your loved one is being looked after by staff that are skilled and knowledgeable.

For added peace of mind for you or a loved one, our staff do a wellbeing check every weekday morning to just say hello and make sure everything is okay.

And of course, it goes without saying that visitors are welcome to visit you at any time. Or if you need to speak to staff about any concerns – big or small, we are always available throughout the day if you wish to visit or give us a call. We also have a guest room for family and friends to use for a small charge if you would like to visit for a little longer or you live a distance away.
