Be on your guard against bogus gas and electrical tests

Regular gas and electrical safety tests are just two of a range of measures that we regularly undertake, to help keep our tenants safe in their homes.

However, we have been informed by some of our tenants and by our repairs contractor, Avela Home Service, that some customers have received bogus calls and letters, claiming to be from SLH, to arrange gas and electricity inspections.

Gas safety inspections occur once a year while electrical safety checks take place every five. If you have recently had yours and receive a call or letter that you’re not sure about, please call us on 0330 303 3000 and we can provide you with reassurance whether the letter or call is genuine, and check when your tests are due.

Initial letters requesting access for gas and electrical tests will come from Avela Home Service, while follow-up letters will come from SLH’s compliance team.

Letters from SLH and Avela Home Service will be on headed paper and those from SLH will include a unique property reference number printed just below the address at the top of the letter.

Below are examples of what a genuine letter will look like.

All operatives carrying out gas and electrical tests will carry identification but if you have any concerns about the identity of anyone calling at your home, do not let them in and call us to check.
