Thanks for having your say about South Parade

17/05/2023

Street corner with a large three-story brick apartment building, surrounded by trees and sidewalks. Several people are walking and cars are visible on the road under a partly cloudy blue sky.
We had a great turnout for our consultation event on Tuesday, where we shared our plans for the South Parade area of Speke.

Approximately 20 people came along to chat with us about the plans and watch the video fly-through which gives you a flavour of the planned development.

Our vision to transform the heart of Speke

Check out our video flythrough showing what South Parade might look like when completed.

We’ve compiled a list of frequently-asked questions and answers based on your comments on the day and on social media in the lead up to the event.
  • A planning application will be submitted in Summer 2023.
  • We aim to start on site Summer of 2024
  • We hope to hand over the first homes Summer/Autumn 2025
  • We hope the scheme will be completed in Summer 2026

Subject to planning approval, we intend to build 94 new homes with a mix of affordable rent, shared ownership and rent to buy.

  • 35 one and two-bedroom apartments (27 purpose-built for older people)
  • 4 two-bedroom bungalows
  • 33 two-bedroom houses
  • 20 three-bedroom houses
  • 2 four-bedroom houses

We will look to include a requirement within the contract for contractors to utilise local labour from the Liverpool City Region. We are also hoping to create a number of apprenticeship opportunities and prioritise candidates from the local area.

SLH has a waiting list of over 1,500 people looking for homes in the area. We need to meet this need by building new homes that match the criteria on our list.

The 3,000qm area (about half the size of a football pitch) is designed to be informal public open space and the exact details of what will be included in the open space are to be agreed with the council.

You can apply for a home on our website here. You will be added to our waiting list and will be allocated a home based on your needs and circumstances. If you are interested in a home for shared ownership or rent to buy, you can register your interest here.

We will be allocating our new homes to people who are registered on our waiting list and the home ownership products will be allocated based on expressions of interest and the necessary affordability assessments.

There are 35 apartments in our proposal of which 27 one and two-bedroom apartments will be allocated for older people. These, combined with the four bungalows proposed, will help meet the needs of people currently on our waiting list.

The public open space being created will be available for everyone to use for all types of recreational activities.

We are keen to create an attractive open space for local people to enjoy and understand that established trees can play a role in this. However, we need to balance preserving mature trees with the overall layout of the development and a strong residential frontage onto South Parade. The removal of any trees will be through discussion and agreement with the council as part of the overall application for the site.

What are the timescales for the scheme?
