South Liverpool Homes (SLH) has secured a £40 million deal with NatWest to fund new energy-efficient and affordable homes in the south Liverpool area, predominantly in Speke and Garston.
The funding package provides the organisation with fixed-rate funding, which will support the building of 280 new homes for affordable rent and low-cost home ownership, as well as allow for energy improvements to existing homes.
The package has been specifically designed to benefit the business for meeting sustainability targets, including ensuring the environmental efficiency of new build properties and improving the housing association’s overall carbon footprint.
The company’s overall environmental credentials are assessed through the independent SHIFT accreditation - an assessment scheme that demonstrates to funders, partners and regulators that organisations are meeting science-based environmental targets.
"We’re delighted to have received this funding from NatWest and are pleased they share our vision to support the local community by creating both affordable and energy efficient housing across Liverpool."

The investment will also allow South Liverpool Homes to continue their charitable objectives including a selection of ongoing environmental and social initiatives such as a local low-waste community shop and providing assistance and advice for tenants seeking employment.
Mark Chambers, Executive Director of Finance at South Liverpool Homes, said: “We’re delighted to have received this funding from NatWest and are pleased they share our vision to support the local community by creating both affordable and energy efficient housing across Liverpool.
"This deal will allow us to make significant progress against our sustainability objectives and help us build new homes to the highest level of efficiency as well as improve the efficiency of our existing homes.”
Martin Skinner, Director, Housing Finance at NatWest, said: “The amazing work that South Liverpool Homes is doing to create more affordable sustainable homes across the region is vitally important, particularly at this time, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer them a finance package that is closely linked to meeting sustainability targets. We look forward to continuing to work with Mark and the team to provide the support they need.”
