MP visits new housing development site in Garston
Published: 10 December 2024
Maria Eagle MP visited South Liverpool Homes’ (SLH) exciting new housing development last week, where construction has begun on 15 two and three-bedroom homes.
The development, located on Church Road (close to King Street) in Garston, aims to address the growing demands for affordable housing, offering homes for both rent to buy and affordable rent. It is one of two developments in the Garston Under the Bridge area, where a further nine homes for affordable rent are being built on Window Lane.
All 24 homes are designed to meet the highest sustainability standards, built to an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of A, with all homes equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging points and photovoltaic (PV) solar panels.
Maria Eagle MP was joined by Garston councillor Sam Gorst and Liverpool City Council’s Director of Housing, Andrew Leigh. During the visit, they discussed the progress of the development with contractor Kingsmead Homes and South Liverpool Homes' representatives.
"I was pleased to join South Liverpool Homes at their new development on Church St in Garston, where they are building fifteen much-needed affordable two and three-bedroom homes to buy or rent", said the Labour MP for Liverpool Garston.
"Alongside nine new homes being built on Window Lane, these will bring more high-quality homes to Garston, help local families and young people get on the property ladder, and help address housing shortages in the area."
Anna Bishop, Chief Executive Officer of South Liverpool Homes said: “This development is one of many projects we have in the pipeline to help tackle the housing challenges the south Liverpool community faces. We want people to be able to access quality, affordable housing, and the rent to buy options offer a pathway to home ownership for many who might otherwise struggle to get on the property ladder.
“We are currently building a total of 98 homes across Garston, across three separate sites, which reflects our commitment to invest in the area, supporting local families and individuals to thrive whilst reducing their living costs and carbon emissions.”
The Church Road and Window Lane developments, which are expected to be completed by end of 2025, will see SLH invest £5.4m into the area, helped by grant funding of over £1.3m secured from Homes England.
The development is part of SLH’s wider plans to address the housing shortage in the area by building 280 new homes across Speke and Garston by 2027. You can find out more here.
