Take a sneak peek inside Hale Road Cottages as construction continues
Published: 19 July 2021
Last week we joined South Liverpool Homes Development Officer Joseph Hughes for an update on progress at our Hale Road Cottages site in Speke.
Hale Road Cottages will see 17 new bungalows built around three fully-refurbished Grade-II listed cottages, with the aim of creating a brand-new community in this historic and well-loved part of Speke.
Work has continued at pace since we last checked in. Bungalows at the western end of the site, which will become Old Farm Mews, are in the process of having their roof trusses installed and it won’t be long before the roofs are on and they’re watertight.
Meanwhile, at the eastern end of the site, the new homes on what will become Cottage Mews already have their foundations and the first courses of brick in place, drainage is in and the roadway will shortly start to take shape.
At the centre of the site, the historic trio of cottages have had a ‘soft strip’ – meaning that the interiors have been stripped to enable us to assess the structural work that needs to be done to stabilise the historic structures before bringing them back into use, with modern space and efficiency standards.
We’re working closely with conservation officers at Historic England to ensure that all work undertaken on the cottages is in accordance with their Grade-II listed status.
There will also be a community hub at the heart of the development, designed to be a focal point for new residents and help to reduce isolation.
The development is scheduled for completion in early 2022.
