SLH celebrates Global Scouse Day with community cook-along!
Published: 1 March 2021
Global Scouse Day is a local celebration that takes place every year on 28 February. The aim is to encourage the people of Merseyside to come together and partake in the annual tradition of making and eating the local delicacy, scouse!
Whilst we couldn’t celebrate together in person, we could virtually. Last Friday our weekly coffee morning group, Coffee and Chat, met via Zoom to start the celebrations early with a themed quiz and a special guest in attendance. Local top chef, Dave Critchley joined the group to share his tips on how to make a fantastic pan of scouse!
Dave, Executive Head Chef at Liverpool restaurant Lu Ban, is one of the founders of Global Scouse Day and he was on hand to share his tricks of the trade and kitchen secrets.
The coffee and chat attendees' cookery skills were put to the test over the weekend, with a community cook-along. Free ingredients kits were delivered last week to 15 residents across Speke and Garston after South Liverpool Homes (SLH) teamed up with The Trussell Trust and Morrisons, Speke. Grow Speke gave their tips for the perfect scouse by hosting a tutorial video shared on YouTube for viewers to follow at home with a step-by-step instruction card included in the kits.
Take a look at some of the delicious meals that were made.
