Calling all Speke community groups: Applications are open for Speke Up!
Published: 15 December 2020
South Liverpool Homes (SLH), Merseyside Police, Onward Homes and Everton in the Community are once again reaching out to community groups across Speke to bid for up to £1,000 of funding for their projects.
Since 2018, Speke Up has been taking Home Office funding secured via the Proceeds of Crime Act, with additional funding from SLH and Onward Homes, and delivering it back into the community to support groups whose activities make a positive impact on serious and organised crime. This year Everton in the Community are also kindly contributing to the funding pot, meaning more groups across Speke will benefit.
How it works
Following two successful events in 2019, Speke Up is back with a difference for 2021.
Our previous events have brought together community groups under one roof in a local venue for a ‘live’ voting event. Sadly, coronavirus restrictions mean that this fantastic event won’t be possible but we’re not letting the virus get in the way and instead we will be hosting the competition online.
Here’s Inspector Neil Birkett from Merseyside Police in Speke, to launch the latest edition of Speke Up and tell you more.
Like previous editions of Speke Up, the first stage of the process is a written application, where each group must describe who they are, what they’re bidding for and how their project impacts on crime in the local community.
In the past we’ve had applications from a wide variety of groups, from majorettes to martial arts, and we invite applications from any group that can show how they can provide positive, diversionary activities for local people.
The deadline for the submission of application forms is 5pm Friday 22 January 2021.
After applications are received they will be reviewed by a panel from SLH, Merseyside Police, Onward Homes and Everton in the Community. The successful applicants will then go through to round two, where they will be asked to submit a short, simple two-minute video pitch, similar to those delivered on stage in previous events, after which the successful bidders will be revealed.
So please apply today and help us get vital funding to local community groups like you, who are doing their bit to enrich and strengthen the communities of Speke!
