Employability and advice hub, Reach bridges the gap to support #HomesAtTheHeart campaign

Published: 3 August 2020
Reach supports employment drive to lessen unemployment figures and provide extra support when it’s needed the most.
Homes are at the heart of building a stronger economy and one way this can be achieved and supported is by increasing the number of employment opportunities for South Liverpool residents.
Back in 2016 SLH spotted an opportunity to bridge the gap and provide additional support to South Liverpool residents. Ensuring everyone can live in a quality home that they can afford begins with addressing unemployment. Reach, our employability and advice hub, was set up to bridge the gap and address the challenges that tenants face.
Between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020, 1,753 tenants received employment support through Reach. Of those tenants, 204 went onto find paid employment.
Connecting people with work through the pandemic
Reach has been closed during the pandemic, but the project has adapted its services by promoting digital training courses in association with its community of training providers and sharing local vacancies in the area.
Statistics from the Office of National Statistics reveal 7% of British households do not have any connection to the internet, rising to 27% amongst single person households aged over 65.
This stat alone highlights the importance of the services offered by Reach. Supporting jobseekers in the search for work, by providing access to IT facilities, training opportunities, guidance and assistance with cover letters and CVs.
As a community-based housing association, SLH understand the importance of supporting tenants outside of the home too. Offering employment support is key, to ensure tenants remain in their home and financially stable.
