From farm to plate: Grow Speke feeds our Independent Living Schemes

Published: 29 July 2020
Throughout lockdown volunteers and South Liverpool Homes (SLH) colleagues have been tending to Grow Speke, our community garden.
The site, run by Groundwork Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside and supported by Merseyside Police and Blackburne House, is now producing an abundance of fresh, local fruit and vegetables that we have been distributing throughout South Liverpool, through community centres and to our Independent Living schemes in Woolton.
Here our new Community Investment Team took a morning out of the virtual office and came along to help regular Grow Speke volunteers harvest lettuces, potatoes, cabbages, onions and more before Joe Cummings, SLH enterprise manager, hand delivered the goods to Servite Court. From farm to plate in less than a day!
