Coffee & Chat goes virtual thanks to STEC and the #LCRCares initiative

Remember our Coffee and Chat sessions at The Market Place? Yes, we miss them too!
Back in January we began our Coffee and Chat sessions at The Market Place, working in partnership with Imagine Independence, to help reduce social isolation and improve tenants’ mental health and wellbeing.
We’re aiming to reopen The Market Place in September but in the meantime, with the help of Speke Training and Enterprise Centre (STEC) we’ve gone virtual. And yesterday Tom from our new Community Investment Team delivered free tablet devices, bundled with six months’ data access, together with tea, coffee and biscuits (you can’t forget the biscuits) to the first group of tenants taking part.
Part of the Liverpool City Region #LCRCares initiative, the project aims to combat social and digital exclusion, which can be made worse by the current coronavirus situation. Those taking part will be given help and support using the devices and accessing the internet to do practical things like pay bills, shop online, manage their tenancies through mySLH, as well as keeping in touch with family and friends.
Our Community Investment Team will also Zoom 1-2-1 regularly with tenants and bring them together for regular Friday coffee chats! These sessions will be led by a guest speaker and will include sessions about mental health awareness, healthy eating and exercise.
South Liverpool Homes Community Health and Wellbeing Officer Tom Hayes said, “We’re really excited to get this project up and running. Coronavirus has presented us and the community with many challenges but thanks to technology and help from our friends at STEC, we can help some of our tenants overcome isolation and get vital access to digital services.”
