Construction work set to resume at Greenway Road
Published: 8 May 2020
Contractor Keepmoat Homes is set to resume construction work at South Liverpool Homes’ (SLH) Greenway Road development on Monday 11 May.
Progress has halted on the 118-home development in Speke in March due to the cororavirus outbreak, to protect the health and wellbeing of Keepmoat’s staff, tenants, existing residents and the wider community.
But following careful consideration and consultation, Keepmoat Homes have made the decision to restart work at the development and keep pace for demand with high-quality and affordable housing in South Liverpool.
Gareth Roberts, North West Managing Director at Keepmoat Homes said, “We have used guidance issued by the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), the Government and the Health and Safety Executive to assess every aspect our site operations and addressed the changes that need to be made to fully comply with the restrictions imposed by social distancing requirements.
“We are now confident that we have a robust set of detailed protocols, including fully revised working practices and clear guidance for people coming to site to work.”
Claire Ryan, Director of Investment and Assurance at SLH said, “When Keepmoat halted construction work at Greenway Road, it was the right thing to do for the safety of their workforce, our tenants and local residents.
“Following direction from the government and construction industry experts, we’re confident that Keepmoat Homes will continue to push the project forward in a way that keeps people safe, while addressing the demand for affordable housing in our communities”.
Residents living close to the Greenway Road development have received a letter from Keepmoat Homes advising them that work is resuming along with the means of addressing any specific concerns.
Up to now, around 50 families have already moved into the new development of two and three bedroom homes. The development is expected to be completed by spring 2021 and is part of South Liverpool Homes’ plans to build over 240 new homes by 2021 for affordable rent, shared ownership and rent to buy across South Liverpool.
