Keep safe and celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day
Published: 7 May 2020
As we approach the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day on Friday 8 May, we hope all our tenants and the wider community have a lovely day on what looks like being a sunny bank holiday weekend.
Whilst it is a shame that this special day falls at a time when the country is in lockdown we want to remind everyone to continue to abide by the Government’s social distancing and lockdown rules.
We understand that many of you will want to spend this momentous occasion with your neighbours and there are lots of lovely community activities that have been planned around the country. However, please remember the social distancing rules with any activities you may have planned for your area.
Social distancing involves the limitation of social contact with other people outside of your own household to slow the spread of the virus, protect our NHS and save lives. Street parties or gatherings in close proximity with neighbours in the street or other recreational areas go against government rules.
If you live in one of our flats or independent living schemes this also means that social gatherings are not permitted in indoor or outdoor communal areas.
Here’s are reminder of the Government rules currently in force.
You should only leave your house for one of four reasons:
- Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
- Going out for one form of exercise per day
- Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
- Travelling to work if you cannot work from home
Reporting your concerns about social distancing
If over the weekend you have any concerns about social distancing then please contact Merseyside Police on 101 or on the Merseyside Police website.
Helping you celebrate safely at home
But all of this doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate this iconic landmark at home with the people we live with. Citizen Housing, the Royal British Legion and the National Memorial Arboretum have got together to produce special packs for adults and children to help celebrate the occasion, including forties-inspired recipes, bunting and more.
