Spooktacular Speke event success with local community

Published: 31 October 2019

A Halloween event that took place in the grounds of a budding community garden in Speke, Liverpool, was a frightful success with local residents.

Families joined in the fun at Grow Speke on Wednesday 30 October where they enjoyed fiendish face painting, creepy crafts, petrifying pumpkin carving, spooky musical statues, horrible hot dogs and scary stories told by Liverpool-based community organisation ArtsGroupie CIC

South Liverpool Homes (SLH) organised the event with Groundwork in the grounds of Grow Speke, a community garden being delivered in partnership between the two organisations with the help of volunteers.  The garden hosts sessions throughout the week where everyone is welcome to come along, meet new people over a cup of tea and a free bite to eat and learn how to grow and cook their own fresh fruit and vegetables. The Halloween event is just one of several events held at the garden throughout the year.

Selina Wall-Aldis, SLH’s Engagement Officer said “We wanted to put on an event that the whole community could enjoy and it was fabulous to see so many families turn out to join in the ghoulish fun! The garden was eerily transformed by SLH colleagues who got into spirit of things by dressing up in Halloween costumes for the event and gave local children a ‘mischief night’ to remember.”
