South Liverpool Homes launch new construction apprenticeship programme
Published: 4 March 2019
South Liverpool Homes (SLH) has kickstarted their week of activities around National Apprenticeship Week (4-8 March 2019) by launching an apprenticeship programme that will create ten new apprenticeships across construction trades over the next six months.
CITB’s (Construction Industry Board) ‘shared apprenticeship scheme’ allows young people to complete a full apprenticeship programme by working with a range of different employers, to gain the skills they require to become qualified. SLH is encouraging contractors who are working on their new housing developments to participate in this programme which will create ten local apprenticeships across trades such as plastering, painting and decorating and business administration.
Joe Cummings, SLH’s Enterprise Manager said: “SLH has a commitment to supporting local people access local jobs, this exciting new apprenticeship programme will help local people gain the skills and experience to assist them in a career in construction. Working with development contractors such as Keepmoat and Avela Developments, they can learn a range of additional skills throughout the duration of the apprenticeship whilst also giving the employer a way to support apprentices without the commitment a long-term placement.”
The apprenticeships will be recruited through SLH’s employability hub, Reach; an innovative partnership approach that brings local people, training providers and local employers together under one roof. Since its launch in September 2016, Reach has helped over 1,800 people into training.
National Apprenticeships Week is an annual celebration where employers and apprentices from across the country come together to encourage more young people to choose an apprenticeship, as well as educating new employers and the wider community on the benefits of apprenticeships.
Throughout this week SLH will be celebrating apprenticeships and the positive impact that they have on people.
