App helps solve noisy neighbour disputes
Published: 20 May 2019
South Liverpool Homes (SLH) is offering tenants a state-of-the-art smartphone app to help solve neighbour disputes around blaring TV’s, slamming doors and barking dogs – helping them to enjoy a quieter life.
The ‘noise app’ allows tenants to record any noise nuisance on their phone in 30-second clips which can then be sent to their landlord in real-time; saving them time filling out long diary sheets over extensive time periods. The recordings are tracked by GPS and produce noise reports, making it easier to analyse findings and ultimately take action.
Julie Marsh, Director of Neighbourhood Management at South Liverpool Homes said, “Our Community Safety Team receives more complaints about noise than anything else, so it’s important that we deal with these complaints in a quick and effective way. This new app allows us to do that. It makes the process much simpler for tenants too – once they make a complaint about noise nuisance to us, we ask them to download the free app, make a recording and then send it us where it’s stored on a secure website.”
“With the ongoing budget constraints, the app reduces time investigating cases that are not genuine and helps us target resources where they are most needed. It also removes the need for noise monitoring equipment which is often ineffective and expensive,” continued Julie.
Four SLH tenants have used the app since we launched it September 2018, with one case currently going to court. Although recordings from the app can be instrumental in legal cases, it is envisaged that the app will help resolve neighbour disputes amicably before escalating to court proceedings.
