South Liverpool Homes unveil their first modular homes in Speke
Published: 25 July 2019
South Liverpool Homes (SLH) is delighted to unveil their first modular homes on Critchley Road in Speke– with tenants lined up to move into them this week.
Using innovative technology, four 3-bedroom homes were built off-site in a warehouse in Yorkshire by modular construction company Ilke Homes, before being transported to the 118-home Greenway development in Speke.
Although the three-bedroom homes have been built using unconventional construction methods, they are indistinguishable from the traditionally built homes on the site, with tenants getting their keys to their homes on Friday 26 July.
The sustainable homes will offer low running costs for tenants and will enable SLH to meet the increased demands for homes in the area at a quicker pace of delivery.
SLH’s Chief Executive Julie Fadden officially opened the homes and invited guests who got to see first-hand the benefits of modular construction.
“This is an exciting development for South Liverpool Homes.” said Julie Fadden. “Working in partnership with Keepmoat Homes, this is the first time we have included modular homes in our development plans and I’m delighted that they have been incorporated in our Greenway site which is our single biggest housing development in Speke to date. It’s important as a sector that we embrace innovative technology to tackle the UK’s housing shortage – so that we can build homes at an accelerated pace as well as offering customers modern, high-quality and energy-efficient homes. I’m delighted that four families are moving into them this week and we hope they are extremely happy in their new homes.” said Julie.
Ilke homes are a delivery partner of Keepmoat Homes who are building the 118 two, three and four-bedroom homes on a former school site on Greenway Road, transforming the area into a thriving community. The mixed tenure development consists of 108 homes for affordable rent and 10 homes for rent to buy – a Government scheme which aims to ease the transition from renting to buying.
The Greenway development is funded by Homes England and is expected to be completed by spring 2021. They are part of South Liverpool Homes’ plans to build over 240 new homes by 2021 for affordable rent, shared ownership and rent to buy across South Liverpool.
