South Liverpool’s Jessica Arno has unlocked her career potential through a traineeship at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, thanks to help and advice she received from Employability Solutions at South Liverpool Homes’ Reach enterprise hub.
Jessica attended Working Futures – a city-wide initiative created by Greenbank College and VOLA, delivered by over 20 agencies including Garston-based Employability Solutions, aimed at 16-29 year-olds who are not in training, education or employment.
Before attending the programme Jessica had lots of skills to offer but needed support to realise her own potential. Jessica worked with Employability Solutions’ advisors Michael and Akil, who helped her see her skills, life experiences and capabilities in a positive light.
Following just two weeks on Working Futures, Jessica embarked on a five-week traineeship at the HR and Marketing department at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, where she flourished and gained great feedback from her managers.
But the airport traineeship was just the start, giving Jessica the confidence to secure two apprenticeships and take her career ambitions to the next level.
“After meeting Michael and Akil at Reach I never thought that I would be sitting at a desk in the airport working on all kinds of admin roles and meeting so many people in the process,” said Jessica.
“Employability Solutions helped me to think about work in a whole other light and give me the confidence to just go into work and to take on whatever is given to me and to do my best. That's the attitude I chose to take with me through my traineeship.”
“This opportunity gave me the support I needed to apply for jobs in the marketing media industry, which is something I’ve wanted to do for a while but never had full confidence in my abilities to do it until being on my traineeship. Now I currently have two apprenticeships in marketing and media waiting for me for when I finish and I couldn't be more excited.”
Working Futures is a flexible programme tailored around the individual lasting from two weeks to ten months, depending on the level of support required. More information can be found at the Working Futures website.
